The online meeting for communities: “Own Distributed Electricity Generation in Communities – Time to Act!”

The National Interests Advocacy Network “ANTS,” in partnership with the NGO “EcoClub,” is organizing an online meeting for communities on the topic: “Own Distributed Electricity Generation in Communities — Time to Act!”

Date: April 10, 2025
Time: 15:00
Format: Online (Zoom).

Today’s challenges in the energy sector demand quick and effective solutions.

More than 80% of Ukraine’s thermal power plants have been completely or partially destroyed by the enemy. Strikes have also been carried out on hydroelectric power stations. Thermal and hydroelectric power stations played a crucial role in maneuvering generation, balancing the load in the energy system. The architecture of Ukraine’s unified energy system has shown structural and systemic vulnerabilities.

Ukraine has made strategic decisions to rapidly increase the capacity of distributed generation, specifically through small energy facilities with capacities of up to 20 MW, connected to the networks of distribution system operators (DSOs). These include cogeneration and gas-piston plants, biogas installations, wind turbines, solar panels, as well as energy storage facilities.

There should be thousands of such facilities in Ukraine, and the main entities responsible for planning, placement, and, in the future, efficient management should be the Ukrainian communities themselves.

We invite you to join the online meeting, where you will receive answers to the following questions:

  • How can a community attract donor funding and/or private investments for electricity generation and storage projects?
  • How can a community stabilize and improve the quality of electricity supply?
  • What opportunities does efficient cogeneration create for district heating in the community, and for tariff formation?
  • How will the electricity market develop in the coming years?

Please fill out a short survey during registration. This will allow us to understand whether your community is interested in cooperating with donors and private investors, which areas interest you most, and which energy projects are relevant to your needs.

Each participant will receive the Zoom link after registration.

Moderator: Ostap Yednak, Board Member of the NGO “ANTS.”
