Conclusion: the quick end of the war largely depends not only on the heroism of our soldiers, but must also be supplemented by efforts and victories on the Second Economic Front, which will deprive the aggressor country of its financial and economic potential.
Experts of the NGO “ANTS” as part of the “russian Assets as the Source to Restore the Ukrainian Economy” project with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) are conducting expert-analytical studies on the economic effectiveness of the introduced sanctions.
The analyst of the project, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Lidia Lisovska believes that in 2022, russia managed to transfer its economy to military lines and provide significant resources for the continuation of military operations on the territory of Ukraine. A quick end to the war largely depends not only on the heroism of our soldiers, but also on whether a real Second Economic Front will be created, which will deprive the aggressor country of the opportunity to finance military operations.
To confirm this statement, we present the results of a comparative analysis of changes in the volume of GDP of world economies and russia (russia’s indicators are taken from russian official data).
Statistics indicate a slowdown in global economic growth from 6.2% in 2021 to 3.8% in 2022. The slowdown occurred in most of the economically developed countries of the world.
As a result of the full-scale military invasion of russia on the territory of Ukraine, Ukraine suffered the most: the fall in GDP amounted to minus 30.2% in 2022, compared to growth of 3.2% in 2021.
On the other hand, in russia, the fall in GDP in 2022 amounted to only minus 2.1%, which is much less than predicted when many sanctions were adopted, and there was no catastrophe of the Russian economy.
What will happen to the russian economy in 2023? When will its potential for waging war be exhausted? What should democratic countries do?
The answer: Do not be afraid and open the Second Economic Front.
The project “russian Assets as the Source to Restore the Ukrainian Economy” aims to organize a number of other activities that will contribute to raising public awareness of the importance of confiscating russian assets for the restoration of the Ukrainian economy.
