Democracy and Sustainable Development: Denmark’s Fight Against Climate Change

How does democracy influence climate policy? Why has Denmark become a country where environmental responsibility is part of its national identity rather than just a government program? How does democracy shape a society’s environmental consciousness — and what lessons can Ukraine learn from Denmark?

We invite you to the second lecture in the project “The Danish Parliament Model: Democracy in Action for Ukraine”.

Date: 17 October, 2025

Time: 6:00 p.m.

We will explore the relationship between democracy and sustainable development through the lens of Denmark’s experience.

Speaker: Oleh Lystopad — journalist, environmental expert at Green Post, and representative of the NGO National Interests Advocacy Network “ANTS”, participant of the conference in Aarhus (Denmark) in 1998, where the Aarhus Convention — a landmark document establishing new standards of transparency, environmental democracy, and public participation — was adopted.

The project is implemented by the National Interests Advocacy Network “ANTS” with the grant support of the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House.
